Women's Solidarity Weeks is an annual social and educational project dedicated to the issue of gender inequality in Ukraine and the development of the women's movement for their rights and freedoms. The founder of the Women's Solidarity Weeks is Sphere Women Association, which has been holding events in partnership with various women's organizations and initiatives since 2015, including in partnership with NGO “Actual Woman”. Since 2018, our organization has been actively participating in the Women's Solidarity Weeks and has organized a number of events:

 

In 2018, we arranged a public discussion entitled “The Third Age and Older: A Woman's Life” which examined the images of aging women in European art of the 17th-21st centuries, gave examples of adult fashion, explained the challenges faced by older women, and ways to combat discrimination. Diana Klochko, art critic and lecturer, and Maryna Losieva, fashion expert and practicing stylist, took part in the discussion. The discussion was moderated by Daria Nagaivska, Project Manager of NGO "Actual Woman".

In 2019, we organized a public discussion "The place of women is in business" with the participation of Olena Uvarova, Ph.D., Head of the International Laboratory of Business and Human Rights at the National Law University, and Halyna Voropayeva, managing partner of VEKexpert. The discussion was moderated by Daria Nagaivska, Project Manager of NGO "Actual Woman". During the event, the panelists were discussing the barriers for women in entrepreneurship and career growth, whether the introduction of quotas is effective, whether there are businesses in Ukraine with a "female" or "male" face and how to achieve gender equality in entrepreneurship and the labor market. Participants of the discussion agreed that gender stereotypes hinder the development of women's entrepreneurship, support and solidarity are critical when making decisions to start and develop their own business.

In 2020, we held two events – a business forum "Best practices for inspiring women and implementing equality policies in business" and a moderated discussion "The impact of women on the business climate in Ukraine”. The business forum was attended by micro, small, medium and large companies from various fields: IT, design, consulting and legal services, accounting and auditing, medicine, fitness, food production, publishing. Representatives of the companies Beetroot, Telesens, Business Element, and the Malibu Fitness Club Network were talking about respect of human rights and support of women's careers on the part of business. Ukrainian companies were also invited to participate in the Corporate Equality Index 2020.

The discussion "The impact of women on the business climate in Ukraine" was devoted to overcoming occupational discrimination, improving the working conditions of migrant women in Ukraine, using the practice of European courts in ensuring women's access to goods, services and employment. The discussion was attended by Olena Tkalych, editor of the Social Portal news agency and author of Gender in Detail, Anastasia Fitisova, migration researcher at the CEDOS think tank, Yulia Razmetayeva, Ph.D., expert in national and international projects of business and human rights. The discussion was moderated by Daria Nagaivska, Project Manager of NGO "Actual Woman".

2021 – We have already held three events: a discussion "Muse or artist: does a woman have the right to theater?", a digest and discussion of friendly to women advertising, and a discussion "Women and corporations: where to look for support and inspiration?".

 

Discussion "Muse or artist: does a woman have the right to theater?" addressed issues of ethics, violence and the position of women in theatre. The invited speakers, representing independent and state theaters, spoke about the problems that actresses face – boundaries violations, manipulation and violence. Rosa Sarkisyan, director of the Frankivsk Drama Theater, Svitlana Oleshko, director of the Theatre-Studio “Arabesque”, Yulita Ran, writer and playwriter, Nina Khyzhna, actress and choreographer, took part in the discussion. The discussion was moderated by Daria Nagaivska, Project Manager of NGO "Actual Woman".

Digest and discussion about the women-friendly advertising, was organized in partnership with “Baggage. School of Marketing and Communities”. The digest includes videos that support women, talk about the female body, debunk gender stereotypes, and help overcome barriers. Women-friendly advertising has several features: it speaks honestly about the female body, portrays men as partners, and supports courageous women who follow their dreams.

Discussion "Women and corporations: where to look for support and inspiration?" took place in partnership with the European Business Association, Diia.Business Kharkiv and Kharkiv IT cluster. The event focused on the company's best practices that respect human rights and support women in employment and career advancement. The discussion was attended by Tetiana Havrysh (ILF Law Firm), Iryna Konovalova (European Business Association), Viola Shmitko (Beetroot Academy) and Anna Sharygina ("Sphere Women Association''). The discussion was moderated by Daria Nagaivska, Project Manager of NGO “Actual Woman".
